How to do a Barbell Hip Thrust

Learn how to do a barbell hip thrust.

Hello everyone! In today’s exercise, I am going to demonstrate how to do a barbell hip thrust. This is a great exercise that engages the gluteus muscles of the body. To perform this exercise, you will need a couple of things such as a bench, a barbell and a pad to cover barbell. Basically, any type of cushion can be used in place of the pad.

It is good to have some form of cushion on the barbell to prevent tough pains and bruises on your hips as you rest it. Now to the exercise. Here is how to go about it.

The first thing you will want to do is get into the starting position. Put your legs under the barbell, then roll it towards your hips. Ensure that the bench is right behind you. Adjust your posture so that your shoulder blades come to rest on the top of the bench. At this point, you are supporting the barbell with the upper part of your limbs.

Move your hands to the barbell to provide some guidance to its movement. Since this is a hip engaging exercise, you will need to lift the weight using your hip region. Remember to keep your lower legs as straight as possible while you flex up and down. Squeeze your glutes for a few seconds every time you come up.

Once you are through with the exercise, come back down nice and slow. Ensure you are safe while doing this exercise.

Thanks for watching and that’s my guide on how to do a barbell hip thrust.
